Looking at humanity through its artifacts

Over the last several weeks I have been listening to Radio 4’s A History of the World, where they pick a hundred objects from the history of humanity and use it to illustrate the culture that made it as well as the story behind it. It has been fascinating a series which has reached a hiatus of few months. It has taken us from the first stone tools, to the axis age when the ancient civilisations were just getting into stride.

I do like the idea of taking objects from the British Museum, and giving it centre stage, there does seem to be a need to wheel in a “Name” someone I suppose your average Radio 4 listener can relate to. Not an easy task as you can imagine.
